Foreclosure Prevention Program
Providing homeowners the tools they need to sustain the American Dream of homeownership
Idaho is now one of the top 10 states with the highest foreclosure rates. One in every 479 homes in the state is in some phase of foreclosure. Chances are, you know or are related to someone who is struggling to keep their home.
Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. offers a continuum of strategies to promote successful, sustainable homeownership for Idaho families. The Foreclosure Prevention Program is designed specifically for homeowners who are behind, or anticipate becoming behind, in their mortgage payments on their primary residence. Our professional counselors help homeowners establish a budget, determine strategies to prevent foreclosure, and develop a plan to get them back on track with their mortgage payments.
Foreclosure prevention counseling is available to all Idaho residents for their primary residence regardless of income or value of home. The counseling is provided free of charge.
NHS is certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a full service housing counseling agency. Our counseling staff receive extensive training on foreclosure prevention and are uniquely qualified to assist homeowners in identifying potential solutions to help them keep their homes.
How it works:
􀂃
Homeowners complete an intake and authorization form and gather all of the documentation related to their foreclosure situation. This gives the counselor a complete picture of their mortgage loan and financial position.
􀂃
Once all of the documents and forms are ready, the homeowners are scheduled for a one-on-one session with a housing counselor.
􀂃
During the appointment, the counselor helps the homeowners evaluate their situation, establish a budget, and advises them on what steps to take next.
􀂃
Our counselors often work directly with a customer’s mortgage holder for possible loan modifications or refinancing.
